Cosmic Child Horoscope
September 2005

Aries (March 20-April 19)
Contact is the word of the season; you may think your Aries youngster is obsessed by activity, or is perhaps grappling with minor health issues. Yet the deeper matter is a desire to draw close, to be appreciated, and to communicate with you and others in his or her life. Discovering what's really important has been a high priority and continues to be so; but such is meaningless if it cannot be shared and appreciated. Whatever this is, make sure it seems as important to you as it does to them. This is a moment when examples of what it means to be a mature adult count for a lot, and you're the prime candidate.

Taurus (April 19-May 20)
Any Taurus not capable of easy verbal or physical expression may be going through some frustrating times now. Silence is not a sign that things are going well, though overt anger and irritation may be. The thing to look out for is suppression, or a stifled, choked feeling. You can do a lot to help the situation, mainly by offering ways of getting feelings up to the surface. Physical games, art projects, dancing and generally getting out of the head-zone and into the body-zone help a lot. One thing we need to remember about Taurus people of all ages is that they can be too smart for their own good. What they need most is to be reminded they are loved.

Gemini (May 20-June 21)
If you have a Gemini child, this is an opportunity to look at some of what happened during the pregnancy and how this may relate to whatever your son or daughter is working out today. Most of that involves processing or untangling unconscious fear. There are many influences in the world that can play with the minds of people whose defenses are not built up enough to control the energy, and at the moment, this is about the best you can hope for. But the relationship to the past may not be obvious until you personally make the connections and work it out for yourself.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)
Cancer people, and children in particular, need a balanced condition in their homes. And this is not always possible with the world in its current state. As adults who have done more than two therapy sessions know, kids take on the responsibilities of their parents when they perceive them unaddressed -- and in truth you cannot control their perceptions. What you can do is stand close to them as they observe and make up their minds about what needs to be done. Let them know that you're aware of what they are aware of, and further, that when you need help, such as from other adults, it's there for you.

Leo (July 22-Aug 23)
You may have noticed that a change has come over all the Leos in your family and in your environment, which I would suggest may take one of three major feelings. One is a sense of apprehension, be it about their own lives or about the state of the world. The other is a sense of responsibility, and the idea that they need to take on additional burdens. The other is a sense that they need to be, and are ready to be, more mature. If you're mindful that any or all of these three may be residing beneath a sense of withdrawal or even mild depression, you'll have the basis for a healthy discussion about life.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22)
Virgos are not the type of people who typically feel like they can conquer the world, nor are they given to feeling like they have more than everyone else. This is, however, a time when their tendencies are running rather contrary to normal. It's a useful moment, when you can help them catch up on a wide variety of missing experiences and demonstrate what is possible when we feel good about ourselves. In truth, anything is possible. But the overriding message of what happens in these weeks is that what happens to us has a lot to do with how we feel about ourselves.

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23)
Any Libra with creative leanings is likely to reach a breakthrough point, but they need the freedom to experiment. While you may be inclined to reign in their wily behavior or seemingly rebellious wanderings, there is a definite logic to the way the Libra mind is developing these days. It's just that they may be the only one who can see it. So stand back and let nature take its course. Remember what you wanted when you were that age. Remember what amazed you. Now, make room for it in your home, and let the world be safe for creativity and fun.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22)
I assure you that unless you're personally a Scorpio, you won't be able to understand the emotional changes and developments that those born under this sign go through this winter. It's really a combination of many factors, but they all boil down to trust. Because so much of this trust involves trust that one's environment is actually supportive and responsive, you have a heck of a lot of influence. Work with this one factor and you will do the Scorpios in your life a world of good. Remember the extent to which you are the environment and it will make a lot more sense.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 - Dec. 22)
Sagittarians are strange people. They are the original cousins from another planet. Many would make effective participants in theological, philosophical and scientific discoveries from age two. They even know this. What all Saggies are going through now involves relinquishing certain responsibilities that come with that knowledge. The problem is it's not so easy for them to live in a world for which they are not fully responsible for knowing the truth. The good part is that at the moment they are willing to go to any lengths to learn what is right for them. And this includes a measure of patience not typically associated with these fiery little people who usually want nothing more than to take the world by storm.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20)
Capricorns, whether Sun, Moon or rising, are the ones who begin life as mature adults and then age backwards. With Saturn newly arrived in Leo, that process of growing younger just took a big step, and it must be a welcome development. You can help it last by making sure that your kid goat lives a life as freed from the burdens of adulthood as possible. It's never 100% so; the sense of responsibility pressure in the current version of the world is quite literally reaching into everyone. But you can provide a shelter. You can provide reassurance. And most of all, you can make sure that nobody around you has to beg for love.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19)
Saturn's ingress into Leo is a get-serious time in relationships. For Aquarians, it comes with a special message that the adults in their lives are setting the example for what it means to be solid, loving and dependable. I don't think there was ever a time when they looked to you with greater devotion, or the need to feel your presence more clearly. When you look back you'll see that this was the time that Aquarius children learned about respect, which really means self-respect. These kids really are different, and as such they need a very solid foundation to stand on. You can offer it easily.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)
Pisces often struggles to find its identity, and one of the easiest places is the least dependable -- in other people. What you can do is help those young Fish in your life remember that their life is really theirs alone, and that their responsibilities to others come second to their responsibilities to themselves. Maybe if more born under this sign were told this younger, few would spend their lives dominated by a sense that they owe everyone else everything. In truth, children owe people nothing -- most particularly their parents. But you will need to remember this for them.
